Smoke on the Water is an award-winning musical biopic screenplay by Jeffrey Connell.

In December 1971, Deep Purple arrives in Montreux to record Machine Head, only to watch the Casino burn to the ground. With their mobile studio, mounting pressure, and nowhere to go, the band must finish the album while chaos, conflict, and exhaustion threaten to break them apart.

The true story behind one of rock music’s most iconic songs has never been told like this. Set over a feverish stretch on Lake Geneva, the film follows Deep Purple as they scramble from one improvised recording space to another after the fire, facing illness, egos, artistic obsession, and the surreal aftermath of disaster.
